This is an introductory music course for anyone who wants to start writing, playing or recording music while gaining essential life and employability skills. It is ideal for beginner producers and music technologists, as well as budding vocalists, MCs, guitarists, bassists, singer/songwriters, drummers and keyboard players.
There are no formal entry requirements other than a passion for music and a desire to gain skills.
This course is ideal for anyone:
- who has found conventional school qualifications, such as GCSEs, to be unsuitable;
- who is not currently in education, training or employment;
- who is looking to return to education.
You will be supported throughout your studies by experienced, inspirational staff.
On this course you will spend time in Music and Music Production completing a series of units in each area: Live performance in a band, DJ, Complete a recording, Marketing & Promotion, Recording & digital sampling techniques. You will also get the opportunity to record in a fully fitted studio with professional equipment and perform in venues across Leicester.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed both internally and externally throughout the year on musical projects and presentations.
Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.
Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?
You will need a pair of headphones and a USB memory stick, along with your own instrument where applicable.
This course is free for young people aged 16-18. All you will have to pay is a small enrichment fee.
If you are 19+ there may be a small cost to the course but we can help you understand this more at interview and you may be eligible for financial help dependant on your circumstances.
If you are 24+ you will need to apply for an advanced learner loan and we can advise you more on this when you come in and see us.
What can I do after this course?
The Introduction to Music course offers progression to our Level 2 courses or to GCSE’s or into apprenticeships and employment.
