Alternative Education Provision

Our Alternative Curriculum programme was first introduced across Leicester and Leicestershire in 2006 and it continues to develop to meet the needs of students by offering enhanced access to a broader curriculum at Key stage 3 and 4. The programme is a core part of our delivery and is designed to provide an introduction to skills in both Performance and Music Technology and provide an awareness of the different aspects of music and music technology. All courses delivered in year 10 & 11 will lead towards a vocational qualification at level 1 or 2 that will support progression to the next level when students move to college or an apprenticeship.

If you are a school or college and would like to arrange a visit with a young person please contact the office on 0116 2664153

Our pre-16 Alternative Provision aims to provide an applied and relevant programme of study that engages young people in learning and:

  • promote 14-19 progression
  • enhance student competence and maturity
  • develop student’s independence and employability skills

The programme will cover elements such as:

  • Use multitrack sequencing software
  • Microphones in music production
  • Developing skills in performance
  • Budgeting
  • Use audio editing software
  • Multitrack recording
  • Employment opportunities in the music industry
  • Personal & Social Development

We can also offer English and Maths qualifications at an appropriate level for learners

How will I be assessed?

Students will collect evidence to present throughout the programme. This will be in the form of written work, recordings, photographs and CD’s.

What can I do after this course?

The pre-16 Alternative Curricculum programme offers progression to a range of Level 2 courses or to GCSE’s or into apprenticeships and employment.
